With a career straddling over 26 years in Management and Executive roles within various sectors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Productivity SA, Mothunye Mothiba, appointed on 01 April 2016, started his career as a headmaster in Kwa-Thema, Gauteng.
Mothiba’s career took a turn to policy formulation, creation of business models and facilitating organisational performance when he joined the Department of Labour (DoL), where he was responsible for compliance and labour relations amongst a host of his responsibilities as Chief Director. Following over a decade at the Department of Labour, Mothiba joined the North West Gambling Board (NWGB), as Chief Operating Officer. At the Northwest Gambling Board, Mothiba was pivotal in the improvement of the capacity of the Board to monitor and enforce compliance with the BBBEE Codes of Good Practice, including ensuring that Licence Holders spend 1% of their Gross Gambling Revenue on commitments towards Corporate Social Investment. Mothiba also developed the Socio-economic Development Framework, aimed at guiding Licence Holders to align their Corporate Social Investment Strategies and projects with Government’s Medium Term Strategic Framework objectives.
He holds various qualifications including a Teacher’s Diploma from the University of the North (Limpopo) and a Master’s degree in Business Leadership (MBL), with a focus on Strategic Management and Leadership; People Development and Empowerment; Business Transformation and Competitiveness Improvement, including Business Model Innovation, Organisational Sustainability and Change Management; Business Turnaround and Recovery Strategies; Socio-economic Transformation and Industrial Policy; Labour Market Policy and Programmes; Strategic Financial Management; Governance and Regulatory Compliance as well as Risk Management; and Programme and Project Management.
He served on the Boards of Osizweni Education and Development Trust, the South African Qualifications Authority, and currently as the General Secretary of the Pan Africanist Productivity Association (PAPA) since April 2016.
